SHIPHANDLING TRAINING & RESEARCH CENTRE

 

The Australian Ship Handling Centre at Port Ash provides training in ship handling for Masters, Ship Officer's and Pilots, using experienced Pilots as Instructors.

 

Port Ash manned ship-model simulator is a purpose built facility.  It specialises in the practical aspects of shiphandling and the control of ships at low speeds in confined and shallow waters with and without tug assistance.

 

The Centre utilises manned ship models to provide practical hands on training on it's purpose built 2 Ha (5 acre) port.  Port Ash is located 35 minutes north of Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.

The Port Ash tug fleet comprises of eight remotely controlled tug models, and one Manned Model Tug (MMT).

Remote controlled tugs are usually operated by an experience tugmaster.

The tugs are used for ship assist during the last 2 days of the Course in General Ship Handling, usually Thursday and Friday.

Tug assist is also available as requested by the client depending on specific course reequirements.
